December 2001

Dec 29 - The Midland Region of the UK has five successful clubs running training throughout the winter months in England and Wales as well as in the main playing season. We are about to produce a booklet to promote polocrosse to a new group of people including members of the British Horse Society and college students.Arena ( indoor) polocrosse is also a new development on our part.

Much work still continues in the Midland Region to increase the number of Pony Club members playing polocrosse in the UK. As Chairman of the Midland Region I am keen to establish links with clubs around the world to widen the experience of our players in every division. If any country has experienced coaches looking for a subsidised visit to us in the Midland Region of the UK during 2002 I would be very pleased to hear from you.

Dec 17 - Hi

In July 2001 we purchased the Hull Polocrosse Ball business from Curtis Racquets. We would like to contact clubs and players both in Australia and overseas who are interested in purchasing the balls directly from us. We have been involved in polocrosse for many years. Bill has played polocrosse for over 30 years and is still playing A grade here in Australia. We would like to supply polocrosse balls directly to players and clubs and that would keep the prices to a minimum. We currently make white, fluoro orange and fluoro yellow match balls. Our polocrosse balls are approved by the Australian Polocrosse Association. I have also been experimenting with making personalized balls (marked and coloured bottoms, etc) and these are also available at request. If anyone is interested in contacting us, our email address is We hope to have our website up and running soon, I'll keep you posted.

September 2001

Sept 25 - Dear Sir

I have just been given the website address for this polocrosse page. I play polocrosse in Zambia and in this country we have clubs playing in Livingstone, Choma Mazabuka and Lusaka. The standard of play is very good and we have regularily played against the clubs in neighboring Zimbabwe, indeed Henry Harris currently playing on a 9 handicap played at our own Livingstone tournament in August. As I have only just found this page I will endevour to post news on a regular basis, african email servers permitting!

Regards

Livingstone Polocrosse Club, Zambia

July 2001

Jul 31 - Hi all. My name is Steve Nankivell. I just found this site and being an ex Adelaide boy I thought I would try and stir up the pot a little and see what I could flush out. I am currently living in the North East of the US and my daughter has just joined Pony Club here. We just had a visit from a Polocrosse coach from Pensylvania and she spent a couple of days on some rudimentary stuff with the kids. What we have now is a lot of very interested kids but a vacuum in this area. There are no clubs and the kisds want to get going.

I am thinking about stepping into the parent organizer/coach role but lack the resources to be able to give them useful skill development drills and exercises. Is there anyone there who may be able to help me in this somewhat daunting mission. My email address is so reply to me there. If you have contacts in the Pony Club arena I would appreciate it.

Jul 26 - Polocrosse Australia magazine wants your news. Send an e-mail to Warwick Fraser because he is short on news from most states.
"I'm after births, marriages, awards won, just about anything!!!", he wrote.

Jul 7 - Vanuatu's Santo Polcrosse Club has a problem this year. Of the clubs 26 horses, we have had 12 stolen - of which three have been recovered and one is dead. Still missing are 8 horses. As a result, we are now not able to play the game - but are doing our best to locate them with the help of the police. Its a bit of a disaster for us but we hope to overcome it. There has been interest in coming here by some people to have a game and I am now having to let the world know not to make any plans just yet.
For your info - kind regards - . President.

June 2001

Jun 2 - Hello
I would like to introduce myself. I am Sally McIntyre and I am the Public Relations Officer for our local club. Although we are only a small club we have a wonderful history with our early team (some 35 years ago) winning the Australian Championships.......a wonderful feat for a small country town in the west of Queensland. Since then we have always had a very competitive men's team ranked within the first 5 of the state....Our Mixed team in the past has won the Queensland Championships and last year was the first year our club has sent a junior team away to compete, winning the Junior B Grade competition......not bad for their fist at the Queensland Championships!

As you would be aware sponsorship is always a problem....it is very hard out here where all sporting groups are flat out fund raising to help their juniors reach their potential..........the only way for our juniors to improve is to get them away to bigger and more competitive carnivals.

Our club now has juniors which have been born and bred into the game.3 of last years juniors have now gone up into the intermediate competition as they turn 17 this year. Each of them has the potential to reach state standard, but of course we have to continue to fundraise in order to travel away. Our remaining juniors are all extremely talented with one being selected to attend the elite coaching clinic at the AIS in Canberra earlier this year. Others have all won individual awards at various carnivals. These children belong to well known families out here such as Moloney, Owens, McIntyre, Johnston, Neal............all with a long history in Polocrosse at state and national level.

My question is HOW and WHO can we approach to help us help our children?
Can you offer any ideas?
We live 800 miles from Brisbane.....our desire is to get to at least 3 carnivals in the Southeast zone but it cost up to $4000 each time we take our club away. We only have 4 operational clubs in our zone and the maximum number of Clubs we have been getting to our carnivals over the past few years is 10 !! You can see our dilemma..........and of course there are very few other juniors to make up a competitive team.

I hope to hear from you soon.
With thanks.
Yours in Polocrosse

April 2001

Apr 2 - The Santo PX Club, Vanuatu, has had its AGM and elected the 2001 committee - self as President again (someone has to do it) and so queries can this year be sent to my same email address as previously posted on the website.
We are having our fun day this coming Sunday 8th April to kick things off, sort out the horses, get the escaped ones back, encourage some new members and riders etc.
The yards, fences are all cleared, the field repegged and marked. One more slashing this week will see it in fine form. Its still a bit wet here but has eased from what it was last year. Our afternoon downpours are legendary bottlers but it doesn't keep us away.
Unfortunately the paint stallion across the river can't keep away either. We may have to prosaglandin the mares since he got into the grounds unnoticed a week ago. Dont want to be foaling mid-match later on in the season!
We dont know quite how well we will go this year in terms of membership and attendance as a few have left our ranks - as happens every year - and more are to go. There are a few more volunteers, a good percentage being women in town this year so maybe we'll be lucky and convert them to the horsey thing. Easy does it.
Anyone who contacted me by email before about visiting should do so again as I have had two PC crashes with viruses and lost most of my address book over the last couple of months.
Thanks and kind regards -

February 2001

Feb 5 - In South Australia, we are trying to get Modified Polocrosse up and running - I was wondering if anyone else in this group do any polocrosse in their pony clubs and how they go about marketing it etc - I believe it is huge in the UK - I would love to get the sport going here in South Australia.

January 2001

Jan 27 - I recently purchased a 15 year old bay Thoroughbred gelding called "Composition". He apparently played polocrosse in Tasmania for two seasons approx. 2-3 years ago. If anyone has any information on him or who owned him, it would be greatly appreciated. Please e-mail any info to
