Polocrosse has commenced in Germany and is here to stay.
The International Polocrosse Council's Senior Vice-President, Ivor Young has given 3 coaching sessions at various German riding centres and clubs throughout 2004. Two of these training clinics have been privately funded by members of various riding clubs and one session has received funding from its local riding association.
Based in Ireland, Ivor Young who introduced this superb Australian Sport to Ireland in 1991 is presently working also with a number of other countries interested in developing the sport in Europe. Polocrosse is widely played in the United Kingdom and Ireland and has been played in Norway since 1999. Other Countries interested at the present time include Holland, Spain, Switzerland and France.
At the pre-Christmas training clinic at the Rusthof Riding Club based near Hannover, Ivor Young was very impressed with the level of both enthusiasm and horsemanship expressed by all the participants at the clinic. In particular he said this was one of his easiest coaching clinics internationally to-date as the riding club members had already worked for several weeks in getting their horses used to the Polocrosse Racquet and ball in advance of the clinic.
Polocrosse seems to be well suited to the German rider who wants to add a little spice to their usual horse-riding program along with being able to use their horse for other riding club events.
Dr. Gabriele Krzemien who first noticed the game being played in Ireland whilst on holiday in 2003 is presently translating the rule book into German.
