June 20, 1999 - The following report is from Julia Chapple and Simon Paynter (Arden Club):

On June 5, 6, 1999, the Essex tournament, organised by the Essex Allblacks chairman, Chris Schaefer, was a very successful weekend which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. There was some tough competition and the polocrosse was particularly exciting to watch. Unfortunately, the weather did not always hold up for us, but we did have a bit of sun.

The Open 'A' grade was sectional and won by Kent Target (who produced two 'A' division teams) after Essex unfortunately ran out of horses. Pennine came second. Penny Hillier won Best No. 1 and Best Pony.

The 'B' division was particularly exciting at this tournament, where Arden played extremely well against some stiff opposition to win a close final against Gunton by 2 goals. Sophie Lodder (Arden), who was poached from the 'C' division, won Best No. 1, Brian Davidge (Gunton) won Best No. 2 and Will Lodder (Arden) won Best No. 3.

'C' division was won by the young West Country club.

Silver Ley won the Junior competition with Annie Waterer and her brother winning Best Player prizes.

The Irish are sending a team to the Arden tournament on July 3 and 4. It will be a huge tournament and "JUST US" will be the entertainment for the evening.
