What an amazing turn out for our first ever Kiddie’s Polocrosse Camp. On Saturday we had 39 kiddies, some riding quite well already, some early learners off lead rein and some on lead rein. It was all very chaotic but great fun! All Kids were put into groups and teams with their coloured Ad-dicts Ads! t-shirts (some rather too small!) and the stick and ball practice and riding games began.
After the afternoon’s antics it was time to take the "Camping Kids" up the road to camp in the bush. 35 excited kids were loaded into 4 pickups and driven down the road to their camp site for the night. There they got to get dirty and happy and make lots of new buddies. They melted marshmallows and cooked Sonette’s yummy bread sticks over the fire, told stories and sang songs and a couple of the kiddies strummed away on their guitars. Dinner was brisket "casserole" in a HUGE pot big enough to fit a kid! We were warned by a parent that if we called it "stew" her young man would not eat it so we had to be posh in the bush and call it casserole. Thanks to Ross and Helena Michelson for the great grub! The kids were eventually sent to their tents at 10.30pm and it took some time before it all went quiet in the camp.
The kids woke up before dawn with delighted shrieks and giggles and we ate coco pops and drank hot chocolate. They got to groom the resident horses and we then all piled into 4 vehicles and went back to the club to start day 2 of the Kid’s Polocrosse Camp. Sunday was a far more organized and successful even though we now had 42 kids! There were some very exhausted kiddies (and adults) at the end of it. We had prize giving in the club house and called it a day! What fun!
The next Polocrosse Camp is to be announced soon.
