It only seems fitting that we send in an update for Canada with so much happening in the past few years. Polocrosse is indeed alive and flourishing here in Canada. Since the last update Polocrosse has been on a steady incline. We continue to host a number of players, coaches and horse trainers as well as travel back and forth to several countries to play. As stated prior, we always have horses and accommodation for that weary Polocrosse player and welcome the opportunity to meet new people and learn a couple more game strategies.
We have since played in both the inaugural World Cup in 2003 and again in the 2007 World Cup. Although our play has consistently improved by the year we are still not competing aggressively on the world stage. With younger players starting to play we hope to continue to improve and are really setting our sites on the 2011 World Cup in England. Currently there are 3 active clubs in and around the Calgary area. With so many horse activities in Alberta we are constantly sourcing out new players from other horse disciplines to increase our membership as well as competition. The 3 clubs currently are the Calgary Club www.polocrossecalgary.com which is located within the Calgary city limits on the West side, the Foothills Club which is located South of Calgary and to the East of High River/Okotoks www.polocrossecanada.com and the Millarville Club which is nestled into the Rocky Mountains South and West of Calgary just North of the small town of Millarville www.millarvillepolocrosse.com. All are easily accessible to the Calgary International Airport just in case anyone would like to come over for a visit or a playing holiday. We are always looking for ways to increase player numbers and to get more of the country interested in learning this exhilarating horse sport. Lesley Plant |
