At the conclusion of the presentation ceremony, the PAA announced awards for excellence in the fields of Coaching, Umpiring and Administration.
The Australian Coach of the Year was awarded to Ian Stewart from Western Australia. The Umpire of the Year was awarded to Hayden Turnbull from New South Wales and, much to my surprise and delight, the PAA announced me as the Polocrosse Administrator of the Year.

ZONE NEWS
POSTPONEMENT NSW ZONE CHAMPIONSHIPS
It was unfortunate that Southern Highlands found themselves in the position of having to postpone the Zone Championships, however, at the end of the day it was just not viable to hold the event. The support by other Zones was most disappointing.
Our neighbours South West Slopes offered the most support by putting forward ten teams, Western Districts nominated four teams and Hunter Valley three. Southern Highlands appreciates the support shown by these zones.
2002 has been an extremely busy year but it seems pointless to spend several months organising a Championship competition if, when the time rolls around, the players are burnt out and not interested in travelling. As a consequence the Zone will be requesting the State to re-evaluate the Championship competition calendar with a view to staggering events. This should reduce the burden on players to travel from one end of the State to the other to compete at Championship competitions.
ZONE RAFFLE
The raffle was drawn on 9th June at Bungendore, in accordance with our permit. Scrutineers were Carol, Garry and Belinda Hallam, Janet & David Sillis, Karen Brown and Odette Neumann. 794 of the 2,000 tickets were sold realising a profit of $1588.00 for the Zone.
First prize was a weekend package for two at GOOLABRI HOLIDAY PARK plus $200 cash (total prize value $635.00) which was won by Jack Flanagan from Moruya with ticket no 1265; Second prize of $250 cash was won by Melissa Madden from Queanbeyan with ticket no 0049; Third prize of $50 cash was won by Janet Sillis from Bungendore with ticket no 1012.
The Zone would like to thank Brian, Gordon & Linda Luton from Goolabri Park for their generous sponsorship of the raffle.
SPONSORSHIP
Sponsorship forms a major part of our ability to run carnivals, whether it is at Zone or Club level. We should always keep in mind our polocrosse sponsors and to this end I would like to dedicate a segment in each newsletter to our sponsors. I welcome contributions from Clubs regarding their sponsors and urge members to utilise their services wherever possible.
This issue I would like to profile two long time sponsors of polocrosse.

ELECT PRINTING
Barry and Debbie Lind have been strong supporters of polocrosse for several years. Their company, Elect Printing, provides a full range of printing services from total concept and design through to print and delivery.
Their sister company "ROAR Creative" is well established in providing intelligent design solutions from marketing proposals through to corporate imaging and from print medium through to advertising campaigns.
The printing company specialises in short run colour work and is proud to be a sponsor in polocrosse activities.
Barry and his team would be happy to provide you or your business with any advice and support for any of your printed and communication needs.
Barry can be contacted on 02 6280 6925.
NEW UMPIRES TICKETED
On Saturday 8th June, fourteen players attended an Umpire's school at Bungendore conducted by David Sillis. The prospective umpires went through the rule book then sat an "open book" exam. As a result 13 B Grade tickets were issued and Bruce Greenslade, Sydney Club, gained his A Grade ticket. Congratulations to the following:
Mark Hughes, Jim Colquhoun, Debbie Hollingsworth, Wes Cosgrove, Belinda Hallam, David Taylor, Sam Taylor, Fiona Wykes, Claydon Butt, Bob Moore, Glen Dorahy, Brett Hart and Andrew Mehl.
ZONE END OF YEAR FUNCTION
The Committee will be meeting on Friday 26th July to canvas ideas for the Zone's end of year function. Usually the Zone holds a competition combining players from all clubs, with the presentation of annual awards held in conjunction with a dinner on the Saturday evening.
However, with a number of our members being away for several weeks for the Nationals, and many others having turned their horses out for the season, the Zone will need to consider other options.
One suggestion is to hold a Presentation Night with Dinner & Entertainment on a Saturday evening in either August or September.
If you have any other ideas, please let your Club delegates know.
Polocrosse Australia Magazine
I have received the following information regarding the National magazine. Although they do use a number of articles I prepare for this newsletter, they are keen to receive news items from all and sundry - don't be put off if you think your writing skills aren't up to the task - Warwick is a journalistic genius and can turn any article into a piece of literary beauty!
The magazine is seeking more State Round-Up information, photos, story ideas, news snippets and general correspondence. Please send us your 'interesting stuff', I'm sure we'll find a place for it, but please remember it's not a newsletter, it's a State, National and International magazine.
*Please make sure you notify the Editor, Warwick Fraser, that you intend supplying material so space can be set aside.
Also please note, we prefer images and photos to be supplied in hard copy, not digital. All photos supplied will be returned.
For more information please contact the magazine Editor - Warwick Fraser on 0408 77 66 73 email:
For advertising enquiries contact Shirley White on (07) 38990 1540.
The next magazine's deadline is August 30thy and is due to be released in early October.

WANTED TO BUY
The following request was received via e-mail:
My husband and I are each looking for a polocrosse horse. We would like mares that are playing or have played. Under 9 yrs of age and must be honest, willing horses with good mouth. Prefer ASH. Will be coming to NSW (from SA) early August to view any ponies available. A friend of ours is also looking for a horse, she prefers to have a mare but will consider the right gelding.
