Adelaide Polocrosse Club 2003 Tournament

15th & 16th February 2003

In what was possibly the last Polocrosse tournament to be held by the Adelaide Polocrosse Club at Mt Crawford, before their new grounds are established at Lobethal in the Adelaide Hills, the Adelaide team managed to come away with the A grade spoils.

Providing competition in A, B and C grade, the Adelaide Polocrosse Club tournament attracted teams form Yorke Peninsula, Naracoorte and across the border from Casterton.

Adelaide's A grade team was bolstered by visiting interstate players Matt Bowman, Garry Wormsley and Glenn Burns.

With Saturday temperatures in the high 30's a relaxed schedule of play meant everyone was able to cool off and recover between games. The heat and dust didn't deter the desire and determination. With many close scoring games played, it would take the final games on Sunday morning to determine who fought out the finals and who would top the weekend performers.

Saturday afternoon also saw the opportunity for Mountain Pony Club from Mt Barker, to "try out" polocrosse under the direction of Adelaide club members and the South Australian State Coaching Director, Laurie Fishpool. The enthusiasm from the pony club members augers well for future participation in the sport of polocrosse.

A liberal dousing of rain on Sunday morning settled the dust, but the finals were still played in hot and steamy conditions during the afternoon.

The C grade final was an all Yorke Peninsula affair with YP1 scoring a win over their club mates YP2. Final score being 10 goals to 7 in favour of YP1.

The B grade finals saw Casterton defeat Naracoorte 15 goals to 9.

The A grade final was hotly contested with the Adelaide home team running out winners over the visiting Casterton team, 9 goals to 7 goals.
