About Polocrosse in Tasmania

Tasmania currently has 4 active Polocrosse Clubs. The Clubs are Central Coast, Kentish, Northern and Smithton with Central Coast being formed in 1997 after the demise of the Hobart and Scottsdale clubs.

The situation in Tasmanian polocrosse is that we play a straight A grade competition now and a B/C Grade combined competition.

Kris LynasThe Central Coast Polocrosse Club has an A grade and 2 B/C teams

Kentish Polocrosse Club have an A grade and 3 B/C teams

Northern Polocrosse Club have an A grade and 2 B/C teams

Smithton have a B/C team.

For the 1998-99 season, Tasmania trialled a system whereby an A/A Reserve team is made up of three 'A' Grade players in one chukka and three 'A' Reserve players in the other chukka. The B/C Grade team is made up of three 'B' Grade players and three 'C' Grade players. The small population base of Tasmania has necessitated a change in the way competition has been played. The system is still on trial.

Weather permitting, training starts about the end of October each year in readiness for the following season. Tournaments start in mid January and culminate with the State Championships at the end of March.
