Jeremy Marriott sent us the following important information for World Cup travellers.

The following is applicable to all passengers travelling on flights into, out of and within Australia. Obviously with the World Cup nigh upon us there are going to a lot of people travelling via air with their racquets in the near future.

In compliance with the Australian Aviation Transport Security Regulations, passengers must not carry racquets for sports, such as squash, tennis or badminton, into the cabin when travelling into, from or transiting at all ports in Australia.

Passengers are advised to pack their racquets in checked baggage.

See the advisory at www.cathaypacific.com/cpa/en_MY/helpingyoutravel/.

Here are a couple of tips for those travelling with polocrosse racquets that I have found helpful in the past.

  • Be aware that racquets bags do not serve as sufficient protection when the air cargo handlers throw a dozen 35Kg suitcases on top of your racquets.
  • The best way to pack a racquet(s) for shipping is to place the shaft end in a piece of either strong cardboard tube or even better a length of PVC pipe, Firmly wrap the head(s) in cardboard and mark prominently with FRAGILE / DO NOT BEND / TOP LOAD ONLY.
  • Wherever possible make sure you ask if you can lodge your racquets as special baggage. This will take an extra 10 min generally but will ensure the racquets are walked down to the loading point rather than dragged via conveyer belt.

Hope this helps.

Kindest Regards
Jeremy Marriott
