Adelaide Polocrosse Club members Mandie Young, left, and Kim Harman clash in a fast but friendly contest at the club's Lobethal grounds during a come and try day on Saturday. They weren't quite devils on horseback, but several new polocrosse players delivered a fast but friendly competition at Lobethal on Saturday, February 10, 2007. About 40 people, including nine new players, attended the Adelaide Polocrosse Club's come and try day, held at the club's grounds in the town after a tournament planned for the day was cancelled. Club members from A, B and C grades, along with juniors and sub-juniors, lined up in mixed sides with the first-timers in a trial match that followed tuition from experienced players. Organisers hailed the event a success and are planning to hold more such days in a bid to attract new members. "All sporting clubs benefit from new members who will represent the club at higher level competitions as they learn and improve their skills," club president Darren Hochuli said. The game is a cross between polo, lacrosse and netball and requires a combination of several skills, including team work, horse handling, strategic thinking and ball skills.
