Hundreds of Queensland schools are about to receive an invitation for their students to rub shoulders with elite international sports men and women, soon to descend on Warwick.
Event organisers are offering free entry to registered school groups for the first two days of the Ridley Polocrosse World Cup at the end of April. The week-long world titles will be held at Morgan Park on Queensland's Southern Downs. This provides a unique opportunity for the region's students to see one of only three sports invented in Australia and in which Australia is the current world champion. Free entry to school groups on Monday 23 and Tuesday 24 April is by registration only and applications close on Monday 19 March 2007. The school days programme is sponsored by McDonalds Warwick who see education and sport as a healthy menu option. McDonalds will help judge the story competition associated with the programme. World Cup Treasurer Mrs Robyn Fraser said, "All registered groups will be provided with an escort during their visit to provide an introduction to the game. The children will have a chance to meet some of the world cup competitors and their horses which Australia has provided. On each of these days there are four international matches, plus a host of other entertainment and Queensland Sport & Recreation is kindly providing sample bags for the children. Based on the 2003 World Cup it is a great day out." For more see www.polocrosse.com.au/worldcup/about_schools.htm |
