Undeterred that it is cost-prohibitive for an amateur sport to secure live television coverage from a regional Queensland location, World Cup organisers are using other technology to bring the competition to sports lovers everywhere.
Organisers of the Ridley Polocrosse World Cup 2007 have appointed three Queensland media specialists to provide remote access to the action at Morgan Park, Warwick in Australia's sunshine state in April. When eight competing nations take to the fields at Morgan Park in Warwick on Queensland's Southern Downs, the action will be filmed by PSP Videos. The vision of full match play will be run through the television system on-site and also broadcast via Internet through QuickStream®. For still photography, Australia's leading sports photo agency Sporting Images will provide the media with a complimentary daily photo service during Cup week. These images will be accessible through their website. As the sole commercial professional photographer Sporting Images will also have an extensive selection of World Cup photographs and photo products for sale to the public both at the grounds and online. Filming will be undertaken by Downs-based PSP Videos, which specialises in filming equestrian sports. The family owned and operated company has been contracted to Sky Channel for the Downs since 1988 and filmed the 2003 Polocrosse World Cup. At the world cup commencing on Monday 23rd April, the team from neighbouring Toowoomba will operate a team of eight including three camera operators. This film footage on DVD will then be couriered to QuickStream's headquarters in Brisbane where they will produce into Windows Media Format, upload and distribute the footage for viewing over the Internet. QuickStream has been at the forefront of Online Media Production since the inception of the technology and has completed one of the largest live broadcasts in Australian history with the launch of Microsoft Windows XP. QuickStream has completed streaming media projects in the sporting arena for events such as Indy, Qld Soccer, Motocross and AFL. World Cup Chairman Mr Les Fraser confirmed that after the event, PSP videos would be editing the film into a three hour highlights DVD. He said, "We expect strong demand to purchase the DVD, if sales of the 2003 Polocrosse World Cup highlights video are anything to go by." Mr Fraser added, "Our own website will be updated with results immediately after each international match and will link into the other websites with streaming and photo services. "This provides the best solution for an event of this nature and we are fortunate to have access to such specialist talent within southeast Queensland. Having worked successfully with each of these suppliers on the 2003 world cup, we are happy to build on that for 2007," Mr Fraser added. The Ridley Polocrosse World Cup will be held at Morgan Park, Warwick on Queensland’s Southern Downs 23:29 April 2007. See www.polocrosse.com.au/worldcup. |
