ZONE NEWS

WA JUNIOR TOUR
Report By Garry Hallam

I am very grateful to all the people who helped with the Tour. All involved will receive a Certificate of Thanks from the Zone.

To David Sillis for organising the loaned horses. Mr Barry Reid for driving the bus, the Reid family for their contribution of accommodating them all, meals and tours around the coast area. The Keir family for the use of the bus.

I thank all those people very much particularly those who don't have any Juniors.

We also received a letter from the Polocrosse Association of WA inviting a junior squad back there next year for the Perth Show. With this I feel we should have juniors preparing from now on.

Southern Highlands Zone Meeting - 21 July 2006

8 minute chukkas
A motion was passed that 8 minute chukkas are to be run at carnivals. Voting on this item was tied and the President used his casting vote in the affirmative.

Zone Junior & Pony Club Coaching Clinics
Eurocoast will hold a Junior Coaching Clinic at Eurocoast grounds, Moruya on the weekend of 28th & 29th October next.

Bungendore and Breadalbane hope to hold one in November. This will be discussed again at the AGM.

It is hoped that NSW will help pay some of the costs towards these weekends.

Applications should be forwarded to Club Secretaries together with a fee of $25.00 for those wishing to participate.

Nationals - Sydney
Southern zones are supposed to be doing the grounds and fields. There has been no communication from the Nationals Committee as yet to clarify this.

Umpires horses are also required from this Zone.

Missing Zone Shirts/Saddlecloths
The meeting was informed that zone shirts and saddlecloths were still outstanding from the Zone Championships held in Bingara last year. Following is a list of players who participated in 2005 - the zone would ask these players to check their gear for the missing shirts/saddlecloths:

A motion was passed that Team Captains have a record of players names with shirt sizes and these will be marked off when they are returned. If these are not returned then the cost of replacing them will go onto their playing costs the following year.

Funding for Club Enhancement
2006/07 Sport Leadership Grants for Women

Grant opportunity for women at club level to undertake education and training to enhance the resources and services offered by the club.

The Australian Government through the Australian Sports Commission and the Australian Government Office for Women invite you to apply for the 2006/07 Sport Leadership Grants for Women.

One aim of the grants program is to provide women with an opportunity to further their education and training in areas of sport leadership which can benefit the growth and development of your club.

The 2006/07 Sport Leadership Grants for Women offers grants in five key categories:

  • Women in general sport leadership
  • High Performance coaching and officiating
  • Women in disability sport
  • Indigenous women
  • Women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds

Each category includes the following project areas:

  • Coaching
  • Officiating
  • Management (including administration)
  • Governance (board and committees)

EXAMPLES INCLUDE -

Individuals

  • Website design
  • Microsoft Excel training to co-ordinate competition draws
  • Level 1 coaching certificate
  • Attend "Developing & Managing Effective Volunteer programs"

Organisations

  • Undertake management/administration courses or governance workshops to develop the skills of volunteer committee members
  • Provide the club admin officer with the competencies to fulfil the risk management duties within the club
  • To recruit, train and accredit junior and senior players as umpires, coaches and sports trainers
  • To advance the clubs level 1 coach to level 2 accreditation
  • Providing level 1 coaching course for 6 women who have expressed interest in taking on coaching or assist coaching roles

The Program provides successful applicants with a one-off grant of up to $5,000 for individuals and up to $10,000 for incorporated organisations.

Applications for the grants close on Friday 15 September 2006.

Grading List Review

The zone grading list is currently under review. Dinah, the Zone Grading Officer, has requested club grading officers to review and revise as required, or provide comments on any gradings which they feel may warrant further discussion. This information needs to be with Dinah by 31st August to allow for co-ordination and dissemination within the Zone.
