Queensland government funding just announced will help create one of Australia's top equestrian sporting complexes in Warwick.

Morgan Park, Warwick will be the beneficiary of almost $110,000 in funding from Sport and Recreation Queensland. The boost comes from a successful application to the Minor Facilities Program 2006, which was lodged by the Warwick Polocrosse Club Inc.

To secure the funding the Warwick Polocrosse Club has had to support the venture with $55,000 of club funds.

The club is preparing to host the Ridley Polocrosse World Cup which will be held at Morgan Park in April 2007, as part of the Queensland Events Corporation's portfolio.

Club President and World Cup Chairman, Mr Les Fraser said the funding would benefit more than just the club itself. "$33,828 will be used to construct a re-locatable grand stand. While this will initially benefit the world cup, this type of permanent-portable seating will create a lasting legacy for the other six sporting organisations which use Morgan Park."

A regular programme of equestrian and motor sports competitions at Morgan Park has created strong events-based tourism for Warwick.

Mr Fraser confirmed that the remaining $72,520 in funding will go towards constructing a roof over existing open horse yards. The site currently has a total of 350 permanent horse stalls, 300 of which will soon be covered. Aside from thoroughbred horse racing, this creates arguably Australia's finest equestrian sporting complex on Queensland's Southern Downs.

The Ridley Polocrosse World Cup 2007 will be held 23:29 April 2007 at Morgan Park Warwick. Seven guest nations will vie to take the cup from Australia. For more see www.polocrosse.com.au/worldcup.
