In fall 2005, three Dartmouth students, Virginia Deaton, Page Wagley, and Molly Bode took the polocrosse PE class offered by Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH. After weekly classes, the three were captivated by the sport and wanted to expand their experience and opportunities in polocrosse beyond the PE class.
After several meetings with Sally Batton, Dartmouth Director of Riding, with the Dartmouth club sport director and countless hours filling out paperwork, Dartmouth College awarded the Polocrosse Team with club sport status.
Batton, Director of Riding, has long been a polocrosse player and supporter of polocrosse in America. She has worked on an intercollegiate rule book and is launching a website for an intercollegiate polocrosse league. Batton published the first book on polocrosse in 1990 titled Polocrosse: Australian Made, Internationally Played.
Several other colleges, including Duke University and University of North Carolina, have started polocrosse teams. In September 2006, the Dartmouth College Polocrosse Team will join Duke and UNC in the first-ever intercollegiate match.
