The Hall Club did a marvellous job with the draw and selection of teams - I think Will was pulling his hair out by Friday, but the draw and competition ran very smoothly. The Bungendore Club also did a great job of running the bar as well as organising the entertainment, collecting the firewood, assisting with the canteen and a number of other ancillary jobs. Burradoo members coped very well in a different kitchen environment serving breakfast and lunch over the weekend. Yass had the umpire's horses under control - I didn't notice one yanger out there! Debby Lidgard and Wynne Keats travelled down from Moss Vale to organise the fabulous hamper raffle. Doug Peadon put it so well on Saturday evening when he addressed the gathering and spoke of his pride in seeing members from all the clubs working together as a team. He said we had something very special happening in our zone and our great sport of polocrosse was all the richer for it. | | Thanks Doug for your kind words and also for your entertaining games commentaries - our great sport is richer due to people such as yourself. Thanks everyone, Odette. CLUB NEWS BENEFIT FUNCTION PAUL SPACKMAN PARMY'S WOOLSHED SATURDAY 26th AUGUST 2000 The Burradoo Club is organising a benefit dinner for Paul who was injured on 14th May. Paul is now out of hospital and progressing well but he will not be able to return to work for some time. All Clubs will receive a formal invitation from the Burradoo Club with the details in the near future, but in the meantime Ann Anderson would appreciate some indication from Club Secretaries on the number of members interested in attending the function. Camping will be at the Burradoo Grounds. ** Please contact Ann on 02 4877 1210 ** ************************** HERITAGE HORSE RIDE CEREMONIAL PARADE 6 AUGUST 2000 The Heritage Horse Ride is passing through Canberra on 5 & 6 August. Terry O'Brien and Will van Weerdenburg have been attending the meetings of the local organising Committee. The event is a promotion by the Unique Australian Horsesports (UAH) to create greater awareness of our horses' heritage and history. UAH exists to promote the two uniquely Australian horsesports of Campdrafting and Polocrosse and to enhance the identity of the Australian Stock Horse. Information about the ride is available on the web at www.uah.asn.au/ The riders will be arriving at Hall (from Yass) on Saturday 5 August around midday. There will be a small heritage type carnival with various activities at the Hall Showground during the afternoon and a function in the hall in the evening. Local polocrosse players are invited to participate in the Ceremonial Parade on Sunday 6th August which starts from the Canberra Riding Club (Randwick Road, Lyneham) and finishes at the Australian War Memorial. Participating riders need to have a reasonably safe horse and are required to attend a rehearsal at Canberra Riding Club on Sunday 16 July. There are expected to be around 100 plus riders from various equestrian clubs participating in this ride. Tentative timetable for the compulsory rehearsal: - Gates at CRC open at 8.00 am Sunday 16 July
- Club representatives meet at 9.30 am
- Rehearsal to start at 10 am and should be finished by 12 noon.
