Quambone 3rd & 4th August 2002Teams travelled from all over the Western Districts polocrosse zone to be at Quambone for what will be known as the dustiest carnival of the year. A total of 12 senior teams plus 5 junior sections lined up to play on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th August, with finals played on the Sunday. Saturday saw some hotly contested games in appalling conditions, however the sandstorm blowing in from the west failed to dampen the spirits of the players. The teams gathered at the Quambone Hall on Saturday night, out of the dirt, cold, sand and wind. The Quambone Polocrosse Club provided a wonderful meal at a bargain basement price and followed it with the Bledisloe Cup on television so players could join in the Wallabies’ victory. Teams lined up again after the football (without horses this time) to compete in the Quambone Trivia Challenge. It was a veritable hothouse of intellectual endeavour, as teams vied for the title of Triva Champions. The Warren team emerged as the night’s Einsteins after a tied score by winning a special tie-breaker challenge. Sunday dawned slightly less windy and the finals took place with plenty of spectators eager to catch a glimpse of the action. The Quambone 1 team galloped to victory against Dubbo 2 in the B Grade Open. In other matches, Marra Monkeys defeated Warren in the B Grade Mixed, Quambone Mixed were defeated by Mendooran in the C Grade match, Quambone Open were defeated by Warren Mixed and in the A Grade Open, Gulgong 1 played Gulgong 2, with Gulgong 1 winning. Orange played a great game to defeat Dubbo in the A Grade Mixed. Spectators were fortunate to see Greg Davidge, who was awarded Best Number 3 at the Australian Polocrosse Championships this year, go on the field to play for Orange. In the junior competition Dubbo was first, Barwon second, Quambone Cowboys third and Quambone Indians and Gulgong tied for fourth. Photographs from the Quambone Carnival held 3rd and 4th August, 2002
